Chery South Africa has added the Tiggo 8 Apex I to its local Tiggo SUV range. The new derivative brings updated styling along with added safety, comfort and connectivity features.

Power comes from a turbo-charged 1,6-litre petrol engine that delivers 137 kW and 275 Nm of torque. The engine sends drive to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Chery quotes combined fuel consumption of 7,7 l/100 km on the WLTP cycle. With a 57-litre fuel tank, the Tiggo 8 Apex I has a theoretical range of about 740 km between refuelling stops.

The seven-seat SUV receives a redesigned front fascia and flowing body lines. LED headlights provide the front lighting signature, while a full-width LED rear light bar highlights the vehicle’s width. The exterior is finished with 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the Tiggo 8 Apex I has a 50 W wireless smartphone charger, dual-zone climate control and a 64-colour ambient lighting system. The front seats are electrically adjustable, with six-way adjustment and four-way powered lumbar support for the driver. Both front seats are heated and ventilated.

The front passenger seat also has a massage function and a power-adjustable leg rest. A rear-operated Boss button allows second-row passengers to adjust the front passenger seat position. A panoramic sunroof with an electrically operated sunshade and a power tailgate with smart-key operation are also included.

Safety features include seven crash bags as well as tyre-pressure monitoring, an anti-theft alarm and a speed-limit reminder. A 540-degree high-definition camera system combines a conventional 360-degree overhead view with an underbody perspective. This is intended to improve visibility when parking, moving through confined spaces or driving over uneven surfaces.

The model also has a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. These include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance, along with other active-safety functions intended to support the driver and reduce fatigue on longer trips.

“Customers in this segment are clear about what they expect from a family SUV. The Tiggo 8 Apex I is covered by a 7-year/200 000 km vehicle warranty and a 5-year/75 000 km service plan. The first owner also receives Chery’s 10-year/1-million km engine warranty. The model is further supported by Chery’s Trans-national Warranty Programme under the Chery Family Care umbrella, which allows customers to access warranty-related support at authorised Chery service centres in the company’s global markets.

The new Chery Tiggo 8 Apex I is priced at R569 900.
