Like us, you may have been waiting for the new generation Ford Everest with glee. Well, the wait is over and the American-looking SUV is finally on sale here in South Africa. Here’s what you can look forward to.
New engine
The previous gen Everest has always made use of Ford’s 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo motor, and while it’s still on offer in the new vehicle, Ford has finally added a V6 into the mix. In this six-pot format, the turbo diesel engine is paired to the firm’s 10-speed automatic gearbox. This gearbox also takes duty in the 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo. What are the power and torque figures, you ask? Well, the smaller motor makes good on 154kW and 500Nm, while the 3.0-litre V6 offers a not-so-big bump to 184kW and 600Nm.
Features and tech
It is built to traverse all kinds of terrains and equipped to do so with an electronic shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive system. You have the option of 2H 4H and 4L. Diff-lock is available at the push of a button, and the Everest comes with six drive modes. You get the standard Normal and Eco modes, and these are bolstered by Tow/Haul, Slippery, Mud & Ruts, and Sand.
Features such as Active Park Assist are available, allowing the Everest to slot itself into suitable parking bays. It will also steer itself out of a parking bay should you delegate this responsibility. This feature is displayed through the new 12-inch portrait-style touch screen, running Ford’s latest SYNC 4A system. Ford has included a digital instrument cluster in its new Everest, presented in 8-inch format in the Sport variant, while the Platinum boasts a 12.4-inch version. Wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are all-inclusive.
Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Pre-Collision Assist and Automated Emergency Braking are just some of the safety features you can expect in the new Ford Everest.
It’s available in five and seven-seater configurations. The second row of seats can slide back and forth with a 60:40 seatback split, while the third row, should you opt for the seven-seater, splits 50:50. Type A and Type C USB ports are situated in the front and centre consoles for passenger convenience.
2022 Ford Everest price
The new Ford Everest is available in SA in two variants, an Everest Sport 2.0L BiT 4WD for R 965 400, as well as the range-topping Everest Platinum 3.0L V6 AWD priced at R1 113 100. A 4-year/120 000km warranty with a 4-year/unlimited kilometre Roadside Assistance is standard in both variants.
