From small-scale farming and construction to municipal fleets, security operations and tradespeople, the workhorse pickup continues to underpin daily operations for countless businesses and government entities.
While the double-cab has gained popularity among lifestyle buyers in recent years, the single-cab variant has held its ground as a steadfast performer in the local market, sustaining consistent demand from commercial operators who prioritise load capacity and durability over passenger comfort.

In response to that ongoing need, LDV South Africa has introduced its newest entry-level offering, the T60 Utility Single Cab. The vehicle is powered by a 2,0-litre turbo-diesel engine and is positioned as the most competitively priced model in its specification class, with a starting price of R299 900.
Gerhard Moolman, chief executive officer of LDV South Africa, said the model is intended to reinforce the company’s position in the commercial segment. “With the launch of the T60 Utility Single Cab, we’re strengthening our commitment to South Africa’s commercial vehicle market by delivering a dependable workhorse that combines capability, practicality and value for business owners and fleet operators alike,” Moolman says.
The new bakkie produces 120kW and 410Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. It is available in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations, with fuel consumption rated at 7,5 l/100 km on the highway and 8,7 l/100 km in urban conditions.
Practical considerations for commercial users include a payload capacity of 1 170 kg, a braked towing limit of 3 000 kg and a 73-litre fuel tank, aimed at reducing stops during longer work shifts or remote site operations.
The vehicle measures 5 395 mm in length, 1 900 mm in width and 1 830 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3 155 mm. Inside, the cabin offers air-conditioning, a Bluetooth-enabled radio and selectable driving modes – Eco, Power and Normal – allowing drivers to adjust performance based on load and terrain.

Safety equipment includes dual front crash bags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, a differential lock, hydraulic power steering, a high-mounted brake light and a rear fog lamp.
LDV’s heritage traces back to the British Leyland DAF Vans brand, though the company now operates under SAIC Motor, one of the world’s larger automotive manufacturers. The brand entered the South African market in 2024 and has since broadened its local portfolio to include the T60 Double Cab, the Terron 9, the D90 seven-seater SUV, the Deliver 9 large panel van and the G10 commercial vehicle.
Moolman described the single-cab launch as a step forward in the company’s local expansion. “The introduction of the T60 Utility Single Cab marks another important milestone in our South African journey, reinforcing our focus on delivering hardworking commercial and lifestyle vehicles designed to meet the needs of our growing customer base,” he says.
