Isuzu has introduced an upgrade to its D-Max range of pickups that comes four years after the debut of the Gen 3 version, but retains the same engine options as before.

The Isuzu D-Max launch in South Africa ran into a number of delays so the model is still quite new in this market – and Isuzu has not yet state if the redesigned version will be launched here.

However, the upgrade gains more technology inside the cabin and features a revamped exterior along with a number of safety improvements.

Up front is a redesigned grille with a 3D look, a new pair of headlights (Bi-Led tech in high-spec trims), and tweaked bumper intakes with air-curtains on the sides along with a new tailgate with a larger integrated spoiler and revised taillight graphics.

Inside, the new 9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment is new  and is combined with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Isuzu added USB-C ports for the front and rear passengers and a new key with remote engine start function.

The powertrain lineup is unchanged  and the base 1,9-litre mill produces 110 kW and 350 Nm, while the more potent 3,0-litre unit is good for 140 kW and 450 Nm – remembering the smaller turbo-diesel engine took a D-Max from Johannesburg to Cape Town on a single tank of fuel.
