Leapmotor has introduced a second model to its South African range with the launch of the B10 Hybrid EV, following the earlier arrival of the C10 Hybrid EV. The compact sport-utility vehicle enters the local market as the brand’s latest offering in the new-energy segment, built on the LEAP 3.5 platform already familiar in other international markets.

The B10 employs range-extended electric vehicle technology, which differs from conventional hybrid systems in that the wheels are driven exclusively by the electric motor. A 1,5-litre petrol engine serves only as a generator, producing electricity when the battery charge drops to a predetermined level. This setup means the combustion unit is never mechanically linked to the drivetrain, resulting in a driving character that mirrors that of a battery-electric vehicle – quiet, responsive and with immediate torque delivery – while addressing concerns about longer journeys.

With an 18,8 kWh battery pack, the B10 offers a pure electric range of up to 86 km, sufficient for most daily commutes and urban errands. When the range extender is engaged, the combined driving range extends to 900 km, reducing the frequency of charging stops on longer trips. Claimed fuel consumption is listed at 0,9 l/100 km on the combined cycle.

Inside, the vehicle features a 14,6-inch 2,5K high-definition central touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. The cabin includes a range of comfort and convenience items, while safety equipment covers seven crash bags and 17 advanced driver-assistance systems. The model has achieved a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.

Connectivity is managed through the Leapmotor App, which allows remote locking and unlocking, preconditioning of the cabin, battery-status checks, driving-data review, charging scheduling and over-the-air software updates. The system also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for integrated smartphone functionality.

The B10 is available in a single Design trim level, with a choice of five exterior colours and two interior themes. The launch shade, Starry Night Blue, takes its name from the Vincent Van Gogh painting. The vehicle is aimed at urban professionals and families looking for a compact SUV that can manage both daily commuting and weekend travel.

Orders for the B10 Hybrid EV open on 18 August 2026. Pricing starts at R499 900 for the Style derivative and R549 900 for the Design model. A 5-year or 100 000 km warranty and service plan is included. With this addition, Leapmotor continues to broaden its footprint in South Africa’s evolving mobility landscape.
